To be a Choice Plus snack, an item must have:

  • Three grams of saturated fat or less
  • 0 grams of trans fat
  • 230 milligrams of sodium or less
  • 20 g of sugar or less

Nuts and seeds are exempt from the total fat limit but must meet all other nutrient criteria. Unsweetened dry fruit is exempt from the total sugar limit but must meet all other nutrient criteria.

Choice Plus snack options include items like granola and/or fruit bars, dried fruit mixes, trail mixes, low-fat and/or baked chips and crackers, and more.

To be a Choice Plus entrée, an item must have:

  • Less than or equal to 400 calories
  • Less than or equal to 20 grams of fat
  • Less than or equal to five grams of saturated fat and natural trans fat combined
  • Less than or equal to 600 milligrams of sodium

To be a Choice Plus side, an item must have:

  • Less than or equal to 250 calories
  • Less than or equal to five grams of fat
  • Less than or equal to 250 milligrams of sodium

Choice Plus beverages include:

  • Unsweetened still and sparkling flavored and unflavored waters
  • Unsweetened coffee and tea
  • Low-fat and non-fat dairy and non-dairy milk, both sweetened and unsweetened. These items must be 150 calories or less per package
  • Fruit juice that is at least 50% juice with no added sweetener that is 150 calories or less per package
  • Vegetable juice or fruit-vegetable juice blends that are 100% juice with no added sweeteners. These juices should be 150 calories or less per package and have 150 milligrams or less of sodium
  • Lightly sweetened beverages with 80 calories or less per package and 150 milligrams or less of sodium
