Canteen Mid-South Soars to Support Special Olympics Camp SOAR
This week’s Branch Spotlight goes to our Mid-South Canteen corporate branch, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, which was recently honored as the Special Olympics North Carolina – Outstanding Corporation. For over a decade, our Mid-South branch has been providing support for Special Olympics North Carolina through donations and various community involvement programs, including ongoing support for Camp SOAR (Special Olympics Athletic Retreat).
Camp SOAR is a weeklong camp for over 300 Charlotte-area children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Unlike many therapeutic camps in the region, which are often expensive and have attendee number caps, attendance at Camp SOAR is free. Funding for the camp is provided by Special Olympics NC, and made possible by volunteers and donations from supporters like Canteen. The camp was founded 13 years ago, and the Canteen Mid-South branch has been involved for the past 12.
In partnership with some product suppliers, Canteen has donated food product for meals and competitions in support of Camp SOAR and other Special Olympics events. Canteen has also purchased new sports equipment and uniforms for local athletes – all in addition to the hands-on volunteer assistance offered by many team members at the camp each year. “Special Olympics North Carolina is so appreciative of the support from Canteen,” said Keith Fishburne, president and CEO of Special Olympics NC. “The budget-relieving support Canteen provides truly enhances the sports experience for the athletes in Mecklenburg County.”
Our Mid-South branch sets the Canteen standard for community involvement initiatives, and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting organizations and non-profits valued by our communities and team members.
